Mex Y Can has a number of Committees that help guide the activities of the Association. These committees provide volunteer opportunities for members and potential members, influence the direction of Mex Y Can and provide input to the activities conducted by the Board of Directors. Current committes include:                                                            


           Marketing and Social Media


  Andrea Martinez

Talented and well-educated University of Manitoba I.H. Asper School of Business graduate with successful academic background in Marketing and International Business.

Andrea has bilingual fluency in Spanish and English. She has strong management skills with several years of customer service experience, interacting with clients, strengthening problem solving skills, as well as leadership and team building. Andrea has participated at several Mexican Pavilions during Folklorama as an active volunteer. 

For over two years she has successfully managed the social media platforms for the association, increasing the exposure of the group. She has participated in the graphic design on many promotional materials for Mex Y Can events and recently she was the Media and Marketing Coordinator for the Mexican Pavilion, Mariachi and Tequila, the Heart of Mexico at Folklorama. Andrea’s acumen in dealing with people is extraordinary and her strong communication skills are an asset for the Association.

   Edgar Rascon



Edgar was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father immigrated to Canada in 1967 and then his mother in 1972, both from the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Growing up in Canada, Edgar traveled to Mexico with his parents at least once every other year and was able to learn to be fluent in English and Spanish. He has read countless books on the history of Mexico from various eras but with his favorite being the Pre-Colonial life of the Aztecs. While working in the Audio Visual industry Edgar took an interest in volunteering with the Mexican Community starting in 2004.  

Edgar has participated in a Coordinator role in 5 Mexican Pavilions at Folklorama and in several events of the Association. Edgar holds an Audio Visual and Broadcasting degree and currently works at Toyota Canada as a Sales Advisor.

Alberto Velasco

Alberto holds an undergraduate degree in International Commerce and Relations from the University Latina de America based in Morelia, Mexico. He has completed a Master's study program on Global Marketing at the Western Technological Superior Studies Institute (ITESO). Alberto has worked with the Michoacán State Government, as Head of the Department of International Commerce at the Ministry of Economic Development. In this position, he was able to assist local companies to become export ready for the US market. In Canada, Alberto had the opportunity to assist Manitoba companies to conduct business in Mexico, Chile and Brazil. He coordinated several trade and diplomatic missions from Manitoba to those countries. 

Alberto has been an active member on Mex Y Can for many years. He helped coordinate the competition for the logo design of the Association and has been part of the Board of Directors in the past. Alberto was the Adult Ambassador in 2009 for the Mexican Pavilion and recently he was the Media Coordinator for the Mexican Pavilion 2013. Alberto has been the keynote speaker for several presentations including the Day of the Dead, May 5th and Mexican Independence Day.
